October is National Women’s Small Business Month, and we are shining a spotlight on some of our local small business clients.

Today, we’re talking to Sarah MacDonald, owner of Cape Cod Wellness Works in Mashpee.

Sarah MacDonald, a native Cape Codder, knew from a young age that she wanted to help people live well. That drive led her to study massage and bodywork therapy at the Body Therapy Institute in North Carolina.

Sarah built her clientele as an independent massage therapist for 10 years before co-owning Cape Cod Massage in Marstons Mills. With a deep interest in complementary and alternative therapies, using all-natural ingredients Sarah also started Old Cape Apothecary, which she calls “old-school remedies with a modern flare.”

Sarah’s most popular item at the Old Cape Apothecary is the “Muscle Calm,” created specifically for clients experiencing regular, chronic pain. Today, she sells the product across the U.S. Also available are luxurious fizzing bath bombs, soaking salts, and more.

In 2021, Sarah took a big step by purchasing space to open Cape Cod Wellness Works at 17-D Trinity Place in Mashpee. The space covers two floors and includes a relaxing outdoor patio. Sarah loving redesigned each room to create a relaxing space for her clients and team. She also expanded her team of licensed massage therapists and allied health professionals.

Cape Cod Wellness Works offers high-quality therapeutic massage, body treatments, infrared color therapy sauna sessions, yoga, community wellness classes and more. Old Cape Apothecary’s wellness and personal care products are available for purchase there as well, including Muscle Calm.
